HOW TO: DIY PHOTOSHOOT WITH A SMARTPHONE + 2 year old BIRTHDAY PHOTOSHOOT PICTURES
Is your birthday or your child’s birthday coming up and you are thinking of a photoshoot? I am going to share with you how to ace a DIY Photoshoot with just your smartphone.
I’ve always been one who likes to DIY stuff. It brings me so much joy to do something from start to finish, save my resources, and still get great results. When I shared my daughter’s 2nd birthday photos on Instagram earlier this week, a lot of people asked me if I had gotten a new camera and what I used to get the shots looking so good.
The only thing I used was my Smartphone! Yes just my phone, for taking the actual photos and for editing them to look great on the Gram.
The first rule when it comes to birthday shoots is to know the exact theme you are going for. That way it’s easier to plan the outfits, hairstyles, props, and scenery accordingly. You can go to Pinterest to get inspiration, there are lots of pictures that give you an idea of what you could do for any kind of shoot.
For my Daughters shoot, I wanted it to be a garden-themed kind of photoshoot with lots of flowers, so I ensured all the outfits I picked out were in sync with the theme and the location I chose. The flower colors complimented the outfits and gave a really soft feel even though the sun was a bit too harsh on us that day.LOL
Here are some quick tips to remember when taking a DIY Photoshoot with a smartphone
PLAN & SCHEDULE
It’s not enough to make plans but you must schedule the time of the shoot. If you are working with your smartphone, you need the sun for great lighting. You could also make plans with a friend or sibling to assist you to ensure that you get the right shots, on the day of my daughter’s photoshoot, my husband assisted me. A tripod is great but sometimes you need a human to work with as to get the best out of it. This is most applicable for outdoor shoots.
HAVE FUN
When you are taking photos always remember to have fun, don’t be so rigid with getting particular poses or shots. Some of the best shots are taken when you are just playing around or having fun so just go with the flow. If you are taking photos of your child, spouse, or friend, allow them to be in their natural element. Don’t give too many instructions as to how they should stand or seat just allow them to feel relaxed and you’ll get great results.
MAKE THE BEST USE OF YOUR GADGET
One of the most important things I usually tell new content creators is that you don’t need the best gadget in order to produce quality work. For this shoot, I used my iPhone XS Max which is really not the most recent but I made the best of it. So it doesn’t matter if you have a Tecno phone, any kind of android or iPhone. Make the best of your gadget. In this post, I shared some detailed tips on how to get the best photos with your smartphone. Check it out here
EDIT
I feel like this is the most important part of the job after shooting. Your editing has the power to take your photos from zero to 100 with just the click of a button. Lol, okay maybe not just a button, several buttons actually but it’s really easy to get your photos to pro photo standard if you know how to work the right apps. In this post, I show how I edit my photos and I also list all the apps that I use. So you could download and try them out yourself.
Below are some before and after photos from my daughter’s birthday photoshoot and some more pictures that show you the power of smartphone photography. You can do it too.
I hope you enjoyed this post, I would love to see you do more with your Phone.
