WHAT’S YOUR PET NAME?

It’s the season of love…Let‘s talk about something small but very important in a relationship.

Of all my friends, Cindy seems to be the most fortunate when it comes to relationships. She has been with the same guy for about 5 years now and she’s engaged to be married later this year. I can’t wait for the wedding…Y’all know I love weddings *covers face*

One thing I love and I have learnt from Cindy’s relationship is the use of Pet Names. Every morning, Toye will wake her up with a call and you’ll hear all those sweet pet names. Throughout the day you’ll see Cindy beaming with smiles.

I was opportuned to join them on one of their weekend getaways sometimes ago to Olumirin waterfalls, Erin-Ijesha, Osun state. All through that weekend,

it was Baby this, Jewel that, Honey this, Treasure that. I can’t recall anytime when they called each other by their real names. I could feel the love radiating from the both of them. Love is a beautiful thing I tell you.

Overtime, I noticed that whenever Toye called Cindy by her real name, she’ll just go “Uh oh! What did I do wrong?” According to her, it’s one of those ways in which she knows everything is going on well in her relationship.

In relationships, a pet name should be important. It is something that is exclusively shared by you and your lover. Sometimes, calling him/her by that name can be a way of letting others know that this person belongs with you.

A pet name is also a way that you can use to reassure your lover that they still matter in your life and they have a place in your heart. It’s a sweet sentiment that no matter how weird or silly it sounds will always bring a smile to the face of your lover when you call him/her by it. It can also be a sign that you two are having a strong and healthy relationship.

Pet names are usually something sweet or delicious, soft or tender. In Nigeria you often hear pet names like Honey, Sweetheart, Darling, Dearie, My Love, Boo, Baby Boo, Sugar or Baby (one of the most common in Naija). In other countries you hear pet names like Cup-Cake, Teddy Bear, Baby Doll, Armo, Peaches and so much more.

The use of Pet Names is one of the ways to spice up your relationship and to make your significant other feel special.
It’s always refreshing to see older couples still call each other pet names.

I have come to discover that when your partner stops calling you the pet names, it can be a red flag pointing to the fact that something needs to be fixed in the relationship.

Just like my hubby calls me Baby when he is very happy with me but the moment I hear his baritone voice call “TOLU!!!” then I’ll know something is up…LOL

So tell me what do you call that special someone in your life?

If you have been using pet names for your Special him or her…..that’s great. KEEP IT UP!

If not, adopt one today. It doesn’t have to be the usual ones.Make it something unique, special and exclusive to him or her…….Y’heard?? *winks*

Love Right, Stay Happy.

Have an amazing week.

Love,

L’queen
