WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY | Prioritizing self-care
It’s Okay not to be okay…Today, October 10th 2020 is WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
I’m joining the #okaymovement & the rest of the world to raise awareness and call for an end to the stigmatization associated with mental health.
With the way things unfolded with the pandemic and crisis all over the world this year,a lot more people have struggled. For people with mental health conditions, many are experiencing even greater social isolation than before. And this is to say nothing of managing the grief of losing a loved one, sometimes even without being able to say goodbye.
I acknowledge that I also struggle with this sometimes, coz on some days it’s so difficult to put a smile on because there are tears hidden behind.
Watching a close relative of mine slip into memory loss/disorientation, being miles away from loved ones and just daily life stress probably triggered these emotions and made me become more aware of my own mental health.
On a day like this, I just want everyone to know that it’s okay to not always be okay, the problem is when we refuse to get the help we know we need.

How I handle mental stress lately: World mental health day 2020
No matter how overwhelming and busy life gets, learn to take time to care for your self inside and out. Like I shared in this reel video I posted earlier this week, it’s important to prioritize daily self-care. One way I practice self-care daily is Journaling, it helps me stay sane. I keep track of the things that make me feel good, the things that stress me and things that I should avoid.
I’m also big on prayer & making daily positive affirmations. Confessing positive things over your life and situation is a great way to attract the right things and call forth what you desire to manifest.
Keeping a gratitude book also helps coz you can easily keep track of every good thing that’s happening in your life on the days when something’s don’t turn out as expected.
If you have to see a therapist or talk to a trusted friend that’s totally fine too, as long they would make you feel better.
It’s also important to take out time to unplug and relax, if you have to take time off social media to refresh then do so. If you need a break from work to relax, by all means get one. Self-care should be a priority in your life coz every other thing can wait. Remember that if you break down at work, you can easily be replaced. So choose yourself first.
❤️Here’s how you can support the #okaymovement ;World mental health day 2020
•Let’s be kinder to people with mental health issues and just people in general coz you never know what people are going through behind closed doors
•Let’s normalize going for therapy
•Let’s stop trivializing other people’s pain (we all react to things differently)
•Let’s make the Internet a safe place for everyone (put an end to cyber-bullying)
•Let’s put an end to the stigmatization associated with mental health issues
Join the #okaymovement to break the stigma, share your own story
